Step right up for the book of the day: Beekle by Dan Santat. This book has been on my wishlist for quite a while, and I am so glad I finally bought it! I get just as excited as my kids (maybe more) about a fun new book.
Beekle is about a fantasy world where imaginary friends are born waiting for children in the real world to dream them up and play with them. Beekle waits and waits for his friend to imagine him, but it never happens. So, he takes matters into his own hands and travels to the real world to find a friend of his own.
It goes without saying that the illustrations in this book are phenomenal - warm and emotional, bright and happy, imagination to the top degree. I ran this story through my little book test today by reading it to my eight year old son and my two year old son at the same time. I feel like a book that keeps the attention of both of my children with their very different age groups is a book that can be considered a great pick. This book did just that. Both my older and younger kid were engaged and enjoying the story.
Beekle is also set to be the next big movie by Dreamworks! According to online news sources, the movie production studio is gearing up to create a movie based on this great character. We can't wait to get more Beekle!
