Sew Fab by Lesley Ware is more than a craft book. Yes, it's focus is to teach girls how to sew through several cute and easy beginner projects like an infinity scarf and an easy skirt, but it's bigger focus is teaching girls to express themselves, to think about who they really are and what makes them truly happy, and to stay true to that even if it isn't what everyone else is doing.
The book is filled with positive affirmations like the one above elevating it from just a book about sewing projects to something much more. Clothing and fashion can get a bad reputation for being shallow, but it is also something that we interact with in our daily lives. Learning how to express your own personal style can improve confidence and creativity. I loved this book. My one gripe is that while I get the focus is on building girl confidence so the book is naturally filled with girl projects, I do wish the sewing projects would have been a little more gender neutral. My son wants to learn to sew, so I thought I could find something in this book that would be easy enough for him, and there was only one project that I would consider gender neutral.
